How To Find And Attract Your Target Audience

Published by BMT Micro on

When creating your website, social platforms, and overall brand image, you often hear that you need to keep your target audience in mind. If you are just starting out or expanding your brand, you might not know who your target audience is. Finding your target audience and engaging with them is the key to driving traffic and increasing brand loyalty. Not sure where to get started? Here are some tips for reaching your perfect target audience.

Start Broad:

When you are first creating your ideal target audience, start with broad assumptions and then narrow them down. Start with easily identifiable categories such as age, gender, and location. You can add anything that you think is important here! Once you have a general idea of who you are looking for in basic categories, narrow it down to a more specific audience. Ask yourself what problems your product or service can help solve, and who could benefit from choosing you. Think outside the box to make sure that you are including every audience that could be a good fit- not just the obvious.

Check Out Your Competitors:

One of the easiest ways to find a target audience is to see who your competitors are marketing to. While you do not want to copy them, this will give you a good idea of who is responsive to them, and what platforms seem to best reach their audience. Use this information to create ways to share what makes you unique, and why you are the best option.

Try Different Channels:

It’s easy to stick with what you know, but exploring different platforms can open you up to a whole new audience. Most demographics have certain platforms they frequent more than others, so utilize those as much as you can. For example, if you are trying to target men ages 45-65, TikTok is probably not where you would go to find that audience. If you are trying to target high school students, you are not as likely to find them on Facebook. Make sure that your message is speaking to your audience so that they will listen! It is a good idea to be active across a variety of platforms, as long as you tailor your message to each one.

Ask For Feedback:

Ask what is working, or not working, for customers who have shopped with you and see what commonalities they have. If you start to see patterns, this will give you some insight on how to tweak your product or your target audience. If you are advertising your product to speak to an audience that is not your target, see what changes you can make in your marketing efforts to attract your ideal customer. Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback, what customers want to see in the future, or even what they think of you in general.

Use Your Customer’s Language:

Different demographics will use different tones and different slang. Use this to your advantage without going overboard. When trying to reach your target audience, Do a little bit of research to see how your audience speaks, what tone they use, and the length of their captions or content. If you can reflect that in your posts, your content will speak to them and encourage them to interact with you.

Finding and targeting your ideal customer takes time and effort, but will help you make a cohesive online presence that your audience loves. What tips do you have for finding and connecting with your target audience?
