Word Of Mouth Marketing

Often, businesses assume that if they make a quality product, it will speak for itself. While this is partially true, if you really want to get your products out to a wider audience, you need to create a marketing strategy. One of the best ways you can get the authentic exposure you crave is through Word of mouth marketing. Word of mouth marketing is a powerful and often underused tool. Word of mouth marketing can happen organically with happy customers referring your products to their friends. However, there are steps you can take to boost your word of mouth marketing.

Determine Your Customer:

Along with having a solid buyer persona, it is important to determine the actual customers who are using and discussing your products. Figure out who is talking, what they are saying, where and how they are saying it, and how you can spread their message.

Be In The Right Places:

Give your customers a chance to review you in a variety of ways. Google and Facebook reviews are very common, but using other methods can help boost your efforts. Many younger users are turning to social media such as Instagram and Tik Tok. Even if it is outside of your comfort zone, see if there is a way you can utilize platforms like these to reach and connect with new customers. If you create content they appreciate, they will share it with their followers and spread awareness for you.

Don’t Censor Content (Even Negative Reviews):

There is no way you are going to be able to please everyone, all of the time. Mistakes happen, and frustrated customers like to let the world know of their anger. Instead of hiding or deleting these comments, publicly respond in a polite and professional way. Let the customer know that their satisfaction is your priority, and ask them to contact you privately. Thank them for letting you know about the issue so that you can resolve it, and work to prevent it from happening in the future. Once they reach out, do your best to understand the situation and fix it as quickly as possible. It is acceptable for you to follow up with customers via email by asking them to rate their experience with you and leave a quick review. As long as you allow them to finish the process quickly (a minute or less) many customers will be happy to give you feedback. Having a variety of reviews on your pages allows customers who are researching you to see the true pros and cons you offer, rather than just glowing reviews. This gives them more peace of mind and encourages to do business with you, as they can see previous customer’s true opinions and not just glowing reviews.

Consider Starting Exclusive:

If you are a new business, consider running a “beta test” with influencers and people familiar with your industry. That will generate buzz around your products, and allow you to work out any small, last-minute details. Starting off as an exclusive brand also gives you an air of being elite, and it will excite customers to finally be able to shop with you.

There are many ways you can utilize word of mouth marketing. It is one of the most under-appreciated marketing methods, and also one of the most effective when used correctly. With the holiday season in full swing, this is the perfect time to get started.
