Finding and Selling Trending Products

Published by BMT Micro on

No matter how successful your eCommerce business is, sometimes it can feel as though you are stuck in a rut with your current products. The market is constantly changing, and your products should change reflect what your customers are looking for. While some products are timeless, finding trending products to sell can really help boost your sales and credibility by showing customers that you keep up with what they like. Here are some ways you can find trending products and market them to your customers.

Do A Quick Search:

Using search engines such as Google to see what results come up for trending products is a good way to get an idea of what is in demand. Google Trends is also a helpful tool to track what is selling well, and what products are just having a temporary spike in sales. Play around with Google Trends and take advantage of their different options to get ahead of upcoming trends and to get new product ideas in your industry.

If you see trends implying that a certain product is about to spike, consider drop shipping that product from a third-party vendor (such as Amazon) who will hold your inventory and ship it to customers directly. This allows to you make a profit while cutting back on your risks.

Check Out Product Reviews:

Looking at YouTube videos or product review blogs from influencers in your industry can give you some great ideas of what are up and coming products, and which ones are on their way out. If a video or post is sponsored, the influencer will disclose that, but generally they will give their honest opinion of the product they are reviewing. While you do not want to copy the product, see if you sell something similar that you can promote or come up with a product that can compete with it.

Look At Social Media:

Another way to get ideas of what is trending, and what products you might want to look into selling, is to get on social media. Look at hashtags, different images, and what content seems to be doing well. If certain posts are getting a lot of attention, look at the comment section to see what customers are saying about the products in the picture. Take their positive and negative reactions and see how you can apply that to marketing and selling your products. Instagram and Pinterest are especially good for looking at product pictures and gauging which audiences are responding well to them.

Research Third-Party Sites:

Look at sites such as Amazon, eBay or Etsy to see what products are trending. Check out your competitors or look into products that you think might do well with your current audience or customer base. Look into their bestsellers lists and their top product choices. Looking at these will give you an idea of popular products on the market, as well as the up and coming trends. The best part about these websites is that they feature vendors from all different sizes and locations, so no matter where you are located or how big your company is you can find trends that your customers will love.

Staying on top of trends can be tricky, but so worth it. If you can learn to read when trends are about to be on the rise, not only will you benefit monetarily but your customers will trust you to know what new products are worth their time, and to provide you with what they want.
