Storytelling In eCommerce
When you think of storytelling, you might picture children sitting in a circle, eagerly awaiting a picture book. If you think a little harder, you’ll notice that storytelling is everywhere, in many different capacities. Storytelling is an incredibly valuable tool that you can use to help you build a solid brand image and connect with customers.
What Is Storytelling?
Storytelling uses words to create new experiences for your audience. It can help them discover new ideas, drive them to take action, or let them use their imaginations. Storytelling is a powerful tool when used correctly, and should impact your audience’s emotions.
The Basics Of Storytelling:
When you are learning how to tell a good story, it can be hard to get it just right. Think of the reason you want to tell your story, and how it can help your audience connect with you. What emotions do you want them to feel? What actions do you want them to take? When writing your story, try not to use jargon or over-complicate what you are trying to say. Use language that your audience will understand and respond to, and explain anything that might be confusing to them in terms they are familiar with. Make their experience about them, rather than bragging about how great you are. Your audience is looking for something that benefits them, so use your words to make them want to be a part of your story!
What Makes A Good Story:
Your story will depend on what you are trying to convey to your audience, but there are several components that go into making every story great. First, you want to make sure that your story is easy to follow and organized. Having a core message helps you get your point across to your audience. Make sure your story is entertaining but also believable. Convince your audience that they can trust you to be honest with them. Educate your audience through your story- spark their curiosity and teach them something that they might not have known. Make your story memorable- you want to make an impression on your audience so that they keep coming back!
Map Out Your Story:
Before you get started, create a plan. What is your main purpose, and what is your call to action? This can be as simple as giving your audience a brief history of your company and inviting them to learn more. Setting clear intentions before you get started will help you get your point across. Do a little research on your audience- what kind of language they use, what they care about, what their values are, and anything else that will help you grab their attention. Use that information to craft your message. Keep in mind the length of your story- you do not want to make it too long and lose their attention, but also want to give them enough information that they want to stay.
Each brand has a unique story, so take your time to create a compelling way to tell yours. Stories are a fun and important way to bring people together and let your audience know the “why” behind your brand. Get creative and share your story! What are some of the best examples of storytelling you have seen? What is special about your own story?

You’re building a brand, not just offering goods. The story frames how your offerings are used, why you created them, the mission behind your company, and much more.
